Pencils for Mandalas
Coloring mandalas with pencils is really fun, as long as you have chosen the right ones (crayons can have different purposes). What there is to consider, you will learn here from a real mandala fan. This includes, for example, pen shapes, whether cardboard box or metal case, and much more information. Have fun with it!
Which pencils are suitable for mandalas?
With pencils, it is wonderful to paint and always like the result in the end. Very young children in their first attempts like to take wax crayons to paint. Painted with it, the mandalas look, of course, not so color-intensive and opaque.
However, there are also big differences between the various manufacturers.
Felt-tip pens do not go for mandalas because they are not intended for larger areas to paint. Painted out, the mandalas do not look really nice.
It is important that the pencils are color-intensive and areas can be painted evenly opaque.
Do you know what mandalas are?
Mandalas are popular among children and adults alike. They are coloring templates that have symmetrical and round shapes. However, these mandalas also need real crayons so that you can really enjoy coloring them. This skillfully motivates and promotes your own creativity. You don’t have to have any artistic talent. Special motor skills are not required. The important thing is to use crayons for the mandalas that exactly meet your requirements.
If you paint mandalas with the right pencils, you will quickly notice how calm and relaxation spread in body and soul. Children train their ability to concentrate and their fine motor skills. At the same time, they learn with pencils to relax completely, but also to occupy themselves with a lot of fun. The boredom is over and as a parent, you can sit back and relax. When colored in, mandalas often look like small artistic drawings.
Tip: As beautiful as some pencils may look and their color pigments convince. There is something else you have to pay special attention to if children want to paint with them. Are their ingredients free of harmful substances? We recommend pencils that are made from recycled materials.
Buying advice: Topics around colored pencils for Mandala
With mandalas, do the pencils have to be able to follow lines exactly?
No, basically it depends only on the demand of the hobby painter. If small children start their first attempts to color a mandala with the break-protected pencils, their fine motor skills are nowhere near as good as those of someone who has been painting pictures for a long time. It is therefore quite normal for children to paint beyond the lines. After all, the blunter the paint refill, the less likely it is to break off in children’s hands. By the way, it doesn’t matter here whether your child is right-handed or left-handed.
As an adult, coloring a mandala makes higher demands on the pencils. You can of course buy more expensive artist crayons with a high breaking strength, but I do not consider this mandatory. The quality of the crayons should be high because, with them, you can paint fields opaque and even hatch. Artist pencils that are watercolorable are not needed to color mandalas. Personally, I want to have painted with my crayons filigree the transitions.

Which pencil shape is ideal for coloring mandalas?
The decisive factor is who wants to color the mandalas with his crayons. For children who tend to cramp their fingers when painting, I recommend crayons with recessed grips. The pencils with knobs, also do not fall out of the hand so quickly. Triangular crayons can also be used well by little fingers to color mandalas.
For adults, the pencils must have a pencil shape that fits you well in the hand.
Triangular is not necessary here, nor are extremely expensive artist pencils that are watercolorable. The demand for the color pigments is however already higher with us “big ones” so that everything can be painted beautifully opaque.
For coloring mandalas should always be pencils with soft color lead because you can paint them evenly opaque.
A high degree of hardness of a color lead is not useful in any case.
How do I handle my colored pencils for mandalas correctly?
It is always important that the crayons for coloring mandalas are treated well. This definitely includes finding a safe place to store them. It is always practical if the pencils are in a metal box or a cardboard case. A metal box remains stable longer, of course, in contrast to a cardboard case.
Then sharpening from the crayons is also a major issue. Sharpening them incorrectly likes to break off the colored lead. Make sure your sharpener is high quality and has a sharp blade. As soon as this becomes blunt, even the high-quality artist pencils break when sharpened – even break-protected versions. Who wants to admire his mandalas colored with crayons, must have sharpened the pencils.
However, the crayon is not sharpened too extreme, because the color lead then breaks immediately already with pressure.
For hatching, it may be a little more pointed. More color-intensive and opaque you can implement with a rather rounded colored lead.
